What Sets Oak Hills Apart From Other Christian Colleges in Minnesota

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 5:16

At Oak Hills Christian College our mission is to provide biblically centered higher education which contributes to growth toward Christlikeness and prepare students for effective service in their homes, careers, churches and communities. While we know we are saved by grace, it is our good works and Christlike actions that help point others to our savior, as mentioned in Matthew.

Oak Hills students aren’t just learning in the classroom. They are putting what they’ve learned into action in the real world through the Student Outreach program which is built into the curriculum each semester. Through Outreach, students use their God-given gifts to serve in local ministries and organizations related to their area of interest. Whether it’s working with a youth group in Bemidji churches, bagging canned goods at the food shelf, or mentoring a child with special needs, Outreach allows our students to be a part of the community in a deeper way.

BEMIDJI CHURCHES AND ORGANIZATIONS RECRUIT YOU

Each fall a Student Outreach recruitment fair is held on campus where Bemidji churches and nonprofit organization representatives set up booths and answer questions about their needs and volunteer capacity for the year. Students then select an organization to serve with. The Bemidji Pioneer did an excellent job summing it up in this article. Organizations include (but are not limited to) the Community Soup Kitchen, Evergreen House Shelter, Northwoods Pregnancy Care Center, Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, Bemidji Area Food Shelf, The Boys & Girls Club, and several Bemidji churches.

Then in the spring, it’s the student’s turn to do the talking. At the end of the year each student creates a visual presentation to share with staff, faculty and the public, highlighting how the Lord has used them throughout the year in their chosen service.

LIVING OUT OUR CHRISTIAN FAITH AND PREPARING FOR A CAREER

When our students invest in others outside our campus they’re not only improving their communities by actively demonstrating Christ’s love for others, they’re also getting their foot in the door for future internships or careers after graduation. Your Outreach experience will help you determine whether your chosen major is a good fit for you.

Whatever your passion, you will have the opportunity to serve while you learn at Oak Hills Christian College. This year’s Outreach recruitment fair is scheduled for Thursday, September 1st.
